REVIEW: Jinkx Monsoon and Major Scales

Jinkx Monsoon may be all alone and that’s fine with us. Leave her alone because she can’t play well with others and doesn’t need to. Her musical therapy session at first seems seemingly seamless but as the session digresses the seams are soon enough thread baren and bursting at the zipper. Beneath the exterior of her beaded black crepe skin tight gown she is squeezed into an hour-glass corset that is obviously sending all the small quantities of oxygen straight to her intoxicated and very imaginative brain. From the moment her alter ego emerges onto the stage in an exhibitionist parody of pretty legs and a great set of knockers we were transfixed and asking ourselves, what have we gotten ourselves into and will we survive?
Co-Host / analyst Major Scales helps Ginger to decipher their deep rooted dysfunction, but once let out of their box we soon discover…She Evil.

For more than 90 minutes we were witness to this larger than life, what is it?character.  Ginger Snapped and spewed clever comedy with unbridaled desire to confess with as much enthusiasm and self-righteousness as a choir boy admitting how much he actually enjoyed it. But beyond the bevy of beauty and the beast Ginger’s voyeuristic new found but temporary Friends were whipped into a frenzy that only a bottle of Vodka, Valium and 8 three hour naps might cure.

Cartoons and Vodka are only a couple of tricks the Monsoon blows in with as well as multi-media sets that are smart, snappy and more than amusing. Jinkx can only describe herself as I’m Just Me and their singing about it was comparable if not even better than that of any diva/divo vying for a top ten record. Let me mention that the outstanding vocals were performed on pitch without any auto tune kids. Major Scales and Monsoon’s songs are another twisted and hysterical story, yet stories that anyone who dares to invent and live the night life can relate to. Jinkx and Major Scales in duet admit that The Boys In The Band are one thing if nothing else that they have in common and we were all but too eager to agree when they put their singing talents together and happily delivered every note.

Ginger Snapped has lost their mind and we're glad of it!

Although this show examines the depths of insanity it actually presents a lot of unspoken reality that some might not otherwise consider. Not since that other redhead landed on the scene singing and camping in front of an audience of men in towels at the New York City bath house has our community seen the likes of such genuine Star Quality as Jinkx Monsoon. This (possibly) versatile but definitely diverse and over the top talent took us through a hypnotic engagement of wit, acidic comedy and a singing voice to beat the band, literally. Ginger Snapped is a roller coaster without the safety belt. Enter at your own risk!

I think Jinkx Monsoon has made a lot of friends  in this town.
