One night my friend and I were playing through Grace Jones videos and happened upon Libertango. Grace was my first exposure to this piece from her Nightclubbing album back in 1981. In the 80’s I was singing and dancing on a nightly basis back in the Midwest. I knew ever since then though that I one day wanted to bring Libertango into my repertoire. But I also realized Libertango would have to wait until I would actually have ensemble the right core of musicians and artists.  I first performed it really with Eve Weiss http://www.oocities.org/vienna/6035/bio.html  in the living room of Sarah Rice. Eve Weiss is a classical guitarist and Mother to Jonathan Russell http://jonathanjazz.net/Welcome.html ,  Libertango was also a featured performance in several Broadway Concerts Direct series http://www.bwaydirect.com,  and was a permanent addition with His-tory / Her-Story.

I really owe thanks to Ms.Rice for embracing this piece and helping me to develop Libertango. Had it not been for my work within His-story / Her-story with Ms.Rice I might never have met the fine musicians who helped produce this work thus far. I have written a short screen play of Libertango and once the right collaborators are identified the next step with it will be a short film.
The music is by: Astor Piazolla  www.piazolla.org ,  Piazolla is most known for a new style of tango composing called Tango Nuevo. The lyrics are by: Ms.Grace Jones and Barry Reynolds .
When Jonathan joined up with his mom and I. I knew right away the time had arrived to develop and finally record Libertango. I was in the midst of working on my LOVE album and I played one of the demos from it for Jonathan and asked him what he thought, his response was “I can do better” and he went on to tell me about his orchestrating capabilities with virtual instruments. I was fascinated by what he told me and put that information in my back pocket until I finally approached him about orchestrating Libertango for a recording. There is no debating here that Jonathan who was only 16 years old when he created this track isn’t an incredible talent with an amazing gift.
After finally receiving the thumb drive with all the stems, the files were turned over to Stefen Braun, who is my recording engineer . Stefen is producing the LOVE album and when we approached Libertango I told him the story that goes through my mind while singing Libertango. Stefen and I work together quite well in this capacity and the LOVE album will be a testament to that fact. But for now I present to you Libertango.
